Weekend Happenings

Orange Beach, Alabama was the perfect spot to spend a long weekend with my hubs, some sand, a good book, more stingrays than I've ever seen before, and some really "classy" strangers. Let's just say I learned more about the STD status of those strangers than I ever needed to know. Note to self: must stop eavesdropping. Needless to say, It was delightfully gorgeous.

My toes have touched the Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf of Mexico in the last 4 months. Does that make me an official beach bum?

It's a Challenge

Let's embark on an exciting adventure! Thanks to Kyla over at Blue Collar Catwalk for inspiring me to participate in her 31 Blogging Days of May challenge. This is the last month of school. It's a bit nuts for me to take on another challenge right now, but I'm up for it. I'm excited about regularly posting, learning through blogging, and "meeting" a few new people along the way. If you feel like a challenge, check out what Kyla has going on here.

The challenge begins on Tuesday! Get ready; get set; go!

I Left My Heart in San Francisco- Part 4

Choosing what to do on the last day of a big trip is the hardest task. The sun finally came out and we spent some time defrosting in the sun. Then we decided to take the 17-Mile Drive at Pebble Beach, and it did not disappoint.
I'm just going to let the photos do the talking.

That rock is covered in sea lions. They were phenomenally loud!

I'm not used to seeing that!

The moral of the story is-go visit California. It's really pretty. The end.

I Left My Heart in San Francisco - Part 3

The last leg of my journey was spent in Carmel. Can you say ideal? This little town is what storybooks are made of. Walks to the beach, post office, candy shop, coffee shop, general store, antique shop are all possible in the quaint town that can say Clint Eastwood was its mayor.

The most exciting part of my visit to Carmel was seeing the Pacific for the first time.
Looks like a storybook, right? I mean that little bird can definitely sing and bring you a string of pearls in the morning.

I was ridiculously excited to see that ocean! Also, I was freezing!!!

The waves were so big.
Is this real life?

What? I have to walk by all of these adorable shops to go the beach? Seriously people, this kind of adorable only exists in fiction, right? Apparently not-it's real. Who knew?

I Left my Heart in San Francisco-Part 2

Y'all, I'm still not over my trip. It has been a month and I regularly dream of jumping on a plane and heading back to the Golden State. After the day in San Fran (check out Part 1 for that story), my delightful host and hostess showed me Palo Alto-home to all sorts of techie stuff and Stanford University.

The drive into Stanford.
The campus was really nice, but quite a departure from the antebellum buildings I've so long equated with college campuses.

The best bagel ever.

This is obviously my future house. It is cute and yellow-sold!

Stanford Theater on University Avenue.

University Avenue

Crazy mural, right? Is it JFK or Bill Clinton? I'm not sure, but it's whimsical. I like it!

Hungry, y'all?

It's so random and weird to take pictures of food. Don't get me wrong; I love food. It's just that my usual routine is make food then eat food. I also think it's a little strange for me to post about food, but I'm doing it anyway because there has just been too much of the good southern stuff in my life lately not to share. Photobucket

This might look mysterious. It's buttermilk and cornbread. Come on y'all don't hate. It's a delicacy, really.

Banana pudding-homemade, hot, gooey- enough said.

We Goin' Party Like It's Yo Birfday

Titles like this are to be blamed on far too much time spent with teenagers. Last week one more person I know left the age of teen and entered (dum, dum, dum) her twenties. Though I have a feeling it won't stop thuggin' post titles like this one.
That's right-this chica is 20. Ellie is not. She is almost 42 in dog years.
I think it's love.

I Left my Heart in San Francisco-Part 1

Okay peeps, I've finally recovered from my travels. Let me tell you, if you go to California you will never want to leave. (Especially if your best friend lives there.)
This blog post started in August of 1990 when two kindergartners met for the first time. Those two little girls became inseparable and spent the next 13 years of their lives tormenting everyone around them. (I'm kidding, a little) Needless to say, we have been partners in crime for a very long time.
Exhibit A: The blonde in the tutu is my sister, the middle one with glasses is my BFF, and the purple dress is me.
Well, we went off to college a few hours away from one another but never lost touch. I have to say it takes a special friend to stay in touch over miles and years. I feel incredibly lucky.
This year my dear friend moved to California, and I couldn't wait to visit! It was one of the most incredible trips I've been on. Getting to see a part of my country I've never seen, traveling cross country alone, getting to relax, and exploring a new city was invigorating and inspiring. I feel a little more free after that trip. I'm not sure how to explain that, but it's true.
Day one of the trip was spent in San Francisco.

A famous scene from one of our favorite Lucille Ball movies was filmed here.
Watch out San Francisco!

I loved Chinatown!
